Valérie Murat is an anti-pesticide activist from the French Bordelais region where the world-famous Bordeaux wines are produced. Murat’s father was a winegrower who died of cancer, an officially acknowledged occupational disease for farmers in France. After his death Murat started the organisation “Alerte aux Toxique” to raise awareness about the dangers of pesticide use in viticulture She was sued for denigration by the inter-trade organisation for Bordeaux wines after publishing findings about pesticide residues in their produce. In this video she explains why she’s still speaking out, even after being sentenced to pay over 125.000€ in compensatory damages.
