Case Study

Okke Ornstein is a Dutch journalist who was targeted for his work exposing corruption in Panama. Ornstein was imprisoned for criminal defamation after writing about the convicted fraudster Monte Friesner in 2016. Upon his return to the Netherlands following his release, he then faced multiple civil defamation lawsuits filed by Friesner’s associates. In this video he discusses his experiences, the impact of SLAPPs on freelance journalists, and the need for anti-SLAPP measures.
